Forget Cougars, Bar and Nightclub Sharks are on the Loose
You see it in bars and nightclubs everywhere however up until now there has never been a name for them. So following the animal themes such as Cougars (40 something year old woman hunting for younger men in bars and nightclubs), Pumas (30 something year old women doing pretty much the same thing), Cubs (The target of Cougars and Pumas) this group of men will forever be known as bars and nightclub “sharks.”
So… what is a shark and how do you spot them amongst the “sea” of bar and nightclub enthusiasts? Well… Sharks are the men in bars and nightclubs that are not there to dance, enjoy the company of their friend and have a laugh… They are solely focused on one thing… picking up.
Generally hunting in packs of 4 or more, the object of the exercise for Sharks is “hooking” up (yes it is a nice fishing pun). So for the ladies out their wondering how to spot these Sharks at the bar or on the dance floor (whether that be for the purposes of seeking them out or avoiding them), here are some of the calling cards.
As sharks aren’t there to enjoy each other’s company, if you see a group of 4 or so guys standing in a circle, not talking to each other and looking around the bar or nightclub, then you can be pretty much assured they are sharks on the hunt.
Sharks tend to hunt according to the basic laws of probability. The more girls they go up to, the more chance they have of getting lucky. If you see a group of guys roaming the bar or nightclub dancefloor approaching anything with two X chromosomes then they are sharks for sure.
Sharks tend not to dance, other than when they feel they have an opportunity with a girl on the dance floor. If you see a group of guys standing at the bar intermittently heading to the dancefloor then they are sharks for sure.
If they are football players (any code) or on a stag night… they are sharks.
If they are all wearing the same brand of clothing… they are sharks.
If one shark happens to get lucky, it is likely soon after there will be a round of obnoxious back slapping and high fiving made so obvious to other bar and nightclub patrons that Stevie Wonder could see what has just transpired.
